Jo-Anne Yau

Jo-Anne's civil litigation practice includes corporate and commercial law, intellectual property, franchises, personal injury, and sports and entertainment law. Her clients are companies, entrepreneurs, entertainers, artists, athletes, and sports leagues. Jo-Anne regularly serves clients across North and South America, Europe, Asia, and Australia as efficiently as those who are local to her.

Jo-Anne began her career with a prestigious personal injury firm in downtown Jacksonville, Florida. In addition to the firm's traditional areas of practice, Jo-Anne developed a corporate and intellectual property department. She then started her own law firm. The Deep Water Horizon incident occurred shortly thereafter; Jo-Anne quickly became an authority in filing BP oil spill claims, and held workshops across the state of Florida to help lawyers navigate the complex and document-intensive litigation process. Her work includes national franchise development in the hospitality and restaurant industry, licensing and endorsement negotiations, and acting as corporate counsel.

Being born and raised in Airdrie, Jo-Anne returned to Alberta after over a decade of practicing in the States. She articled under one of Calgary's most respected litigation firms, which complemented her experience with construction matters, landlord-tenant disputes, and compliance with municipal, provincial, federal, andadministrativeauthorities.

To best serve her clients, Jo-Anne constantly strives to be a leader in the community. She was the "Entrepreneur of the Year" runner-up in the state's largest women's business owner organization, was a faculty member at Florida Coastal School of Law, and is a regular legal issues keynote speaker for professional societies such as the International Franchise Association and the American Medical Writers' Association. Jo-Anne was also the youngest person to ever preside over a Florida court when she was appointed to serve the State of Florida's Civil Traffic Court. Currently, Jo-Anne is pursuing her LL.M. in Internet Law.

Out of the office, Jo-Anne is trying to keep up with her daughter's swimming, skiing, climbing, cycling, golfing, and music lessons. Together, they frequently travel North America and Europe.
