Brian J. Meronek, K.C. is a senior partner at DD West with an extensive litigation background. He was employed with the Federal Department of Justice for eight years from 1973-1981. In 1981, he began private practice with the firm and became a partner in 1983. He was appointed Queen’s Counsel (now King’s Counsel) in 1995.
Brian has extensive experience in commercial litigation, including tax litigation, investment disputes, business valuation and expropriations; personal injury litigation including medical malpractice, general insurance litigation including products liability cases; defamation, administrative law including judicial inquiry matters; municipal law, oil and gas law and energy regulation; labour and employment law; class actions in pension law and indigenous claims; and environmental law regulatory hearings.
Brian has handled a wide variety of civil litigation cases, including actions for and against the Government of Canada. From time to time, he is engaged on an agency basis by the Federal Government and the Province of Manitoba in a variety of civil and other litigation matters. He has appeared in all Courts in Manitoba and Alberta and in the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the Federal Court of Canada Trial Division, Court of Appeal, and in the Supreme Court of Canada.
Brian has been involved in excess of 200 reported and high-profile cases and has lectured and presented extensively in a variety of settings.
