Melissa Serbin is a partner at DD West LLP, practising in the areas of litigation, corporate/commercial law, municipal law, and child protection.

Melissa has extensive experience representing both individuals and institutions in complex and high stakes matters. Her litigation practice spans trials, appeals, inquests, applications, mediations, arbitrations, and regulatory proceedings. She has appeared as counsel in Manitoba, Ontario, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, and before the Federal Court. She also possesses substantial experience in child protection proceedings, including acting for child and family services agencies in hearings, contested matters, and statutory litigation.

In her corporate and commercial practice, Melissa advises clients on incorporations, corporate structuring, governance, shareholder and partnership arrangements, and commercial real estate purchases and sales. She is frequently retained to negotiate agreements, manage legal risk, and guide transactions from inception through completion with clarity and efficiency.

In addition to her practice, Melissa is a dedicated legal educator. She has served as a sessional instructor at the University of Manitoba, Faculty of Law, and has developed and delivered legal education for justice system participants, government bodies, and professional organizations across Canada, including the Senate of Canada and the Canadian Institute for the Administration of Justice. Her current teaching and writing focus on Indigenous law, reconciliation, and the practical application of legal principles within institutional and governance settings.
